Milli Vanilli, the story of fraud or legend?
Milli Vanilli was a pop duo from
Germany. This duet was founded in 1988 and had two singers Fab Morvan and Rob
Pilatus. The group's debut album “Girl You Know It's True” achieved
international success and earned a Grammy Award for Best New Artist on February 21st, 1990.

This is one of the best-selling albums in musical story, with
approximately fourteen million copies, according Guinness World Records. And legacy started!
Milli Vanilli
crossed the world like a shooting star that enters the terrestrial atmosphere:
colossal and strong, but fleeting and destined to extinction. Morvan and
Pilatus did not sing any of songs of their release album, so the duet had to
give the Grammy Award back.
But, who were those young people who reached the top of
the music and after fade out like shooting stars?
ROB PILATUS was born in New York on June 8th 1965. He was adopted by a german family that’s
why he lived his adolescence
and youth in Munich.
A music
producer, named Frank Farian, discovered his talent for dancing and admired his
beautiful face. Then he hired Fab to be part of Milli Vanilli.
However, after the
collapse of Milli Vanill, Pilatus struggled with substance abuse and even
suicide attempts. In 1996, Pilatus served three months in prison for assault,
vandalism, and attempted robbery.
On April 2nd,
1998, Rob Pilatus was found dead at the age of 32 years by overdose of alcohol
and prescription pills. He is survived by his son and his sister.
FAB MORVAN was born in Paris on May 4th, 1966. He is still a French singer-songwriter, dancer, and
model.
He was
recruited by Frank Farian. After that, he met Rob Pilatus in a nightclub in
Munich, so they decided to form a pop group.
He has taken
advantage of his past popularity to continue his career even though everyone
knows he sings badly. Nowadays He lives
in Los Angeles and works as a DJ for different radios.
They touched the sky with their hands,
but why was their end terrible?
The first
public sign that the group was lip-synching came on July 21st, 1989, in
Connecticut. While they performed, the recording of the song "Girl You
Know It's True" jammed and began to skip, repeating "Girl, you know
it's..." over and over through the speakers.
This fame came
with suspicion
During the
interviews they offered, Morvan and Pilatus could not hide their strong
European accent and their poor English management.
This thing raised suspicion among some members of the press.
The end came when
Frank Farian admitted that everything had been assembled from the beginning;
that the two handsome boys were the face, but not the voice of the group.
Unfortunately
it didn't have a happy ending, but I have a lot of respect for Rob Pilatus and
Fab Morvan.
Fab is still
fighting for his dreams although he sings badly.
Rob lives in the hearts of millions of fans.
It does not matter
if they were erased from the Grammy Hall of Fame. Although the story
of Milli Vanilli was the most controversial, Morvan and Pilatus will always be
remembered in the music industry.

In 1990, the dance
pop duo became a legend and put on the table a question: what matters more, the
voice or the face of the artist? I wrote about Milli Vanilli for its story, scandals, legacy, and learnings for all humanity.
